The last date for linking PAN and Aadhaar has been extended to 31 March 2020. The Income Tax Department has extended the PAN-Aadhaar linking date for the eighth time. Now you have about a month left to get a PAN-Aadhaar link.

After the Supreme Court verdict in 2018, the 12-digit identity card has become necessary to collect income tax. PAN is also required for income tax return. In today’s time, your PAN is linked to your bank account and other information.

If you have a PAN card, it is necessary to link it to Aadhaar. If you do not link it by 31 March, your PAN will be deactivated. If you do not have a PAN card, you can apply for it as soon as possible.

Learn 5 important things-

1- If you are going to apply for a new PAN card, then it will be necessary for you to provide the transfusion number. And PAN can also be used when applying for Aadhaar. Both these cards are interchangeable. But those who are going to apply for a new PAN will have an automatic link to the PAN base. There will be no need to link it.

2- If you already have a PAN card, then it is necessary to link it to Aadhaar. That too before 31 March. For this, you can easily make your Aadhaar link through the link of PAN-Aadhaar linking by going to the e-filing portal of the income tax website. SMS service can also be taken for this. You can also check the status of online linking on this portal.

3- There are still millions of PAN card holders that are yet to be linked to Aadhaar. This last date is extended for the eighth time which should be taken advantage of. The dead line before 31 March 2020 was 31 December 2019.

4- Aadhaar is needed for every job like passport, driving license and voter ID etc. Even if you are going to buy a car or property, you will still need an Aadhaar card.

5- After the deadline for providing Aadhaar-PAN link, the Income Tax Department will start deactivating all unlinked PAN cards. After this, you will not be able to use your PAN for IT return or ID proof.
