The number of coronavirus cases in the country has crossed the 40,000-mark to reach 42,533 cases and the toll has risen to 1,373.

3.25 pm: Migrant workers in Surat clash with police, asking to be sent home immediately, a video by ANI shows.

The Centre from Friday started sending migrant labourers home on special trains, but this came well over a month after the lockdown was announced on March 25. In April too, workers in Surat protested against not being allowed to return to their homes.

3.13 pm: The Agripada Police book a 34-year-old doctor for allegedly sexually assaulting a 44-year-old male coronavirus patient at Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai on May 1. The doctor joined the hospital just a day earlier. the queues, some over a kilometre long, to buy alcohol after 40 days.

2.50 pm: The Tripura government says it will send back more than 33,000 migrant workers to their home states by train, reports ANI.

2.36 pm: A Border Security Force officer deployed in the entourage of the Centre’s inter-ministerial central team to West Bengal tests positive, PTI reports. Over 50 BSF officers have been put under quarantine.

2.34 pm: The number of cases rises to 130 in Rajasthan with six deaths, ANI reports, quoting state health department’s figures. The state now has 3,016 Covid-19 cases and 77 people have died from it till now.
