Nagpur: In a significant step toward sustainable energy adoption, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated the contract process to introduce a tram-like electric bus service in the city. Tenders for the pilot project, funded by the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways, will be floated next month.Project HighlightsFirst-of-its-kind in India: The pilot initiative aims to revolutionize urban transportation.Bus Design: Each trolley-e-bus will consist of three interconnected units with a total seating capacity of 132 passengers.Cost-Effective Travel: Compared to diesel buses, fares are expected to be 30% cheaper.Amenities: Fully air-conditioned buses will offer CCTV surveillance, packaged food, and laptop holders at every seat.The buses also feature an innovative wireless charging system that recharges the vehicles within a minute, ensuring efficient operation throughout the day.A recent test ride conducted on the Ring Road demonstrated the feasibility of the project, paving the way for agreements with the selected contractor post the tendering process.
