Coronavirus Lockdown in India LIVE Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation today at 8 pm, five days before the termination date of Lockdown 3.0. Over 6 lakh transported by 542 Shramik trains since May 1

he Indian Railways has transported over six lakh stranded migrant workers, students, pilgrims and tourists by the 542 Shramik Special trains since May 1, officials said on Tuesday. A railway ministry spokesperson said that by 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday, a total of 542 Shramik Special trains have been operationalized from various states across the country, in which 448 trains had reached its destination and 94 trains are in transit. He said that these 448 trains were terminated in various states like Andhra Pradesh (1), Bihar (117), Chattisgarh (1), Himachal Pradesh (1), Jharkhand (27), Karnataka (1), Madhya Pradesh (38), Maharashtra (3), Odisha (29), Rajasthan(4), Tamil Nadu (1), Telangana (2), Uttar Pradesh (221) and West Bengal (2).

On Monday, Modi held a video conference meeting with Chief Ministers of all states to discuss the road ahead in India’s fight against COVID-19 and noted that he was of the firm view that measures needed during the third phase of lockdown will not be needed in the fourth phase. He had said the need was to reduce the transmission rate of the disease and to increase public activity gradually while adhering to all the guidelines and efforts to be made towards achieving both these objectives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the nation at 8 pm tonight, a day after holding an extensive interaction with the Chief Ministers of all the states. PM’s address comes at a time when the country’s economy is plunging raidly due to the nationwide lockdown, while the number of Coronavirus cases has crossed 70,000.

PM may talk about lockdown 4.0 in his address today. He had said during his all-CM meet that the measures needed in the first three phases of lockdown were not needed “in the fourth”. He also asked the states to come up with a road-map by May 15 for the gradual lifting of the lockdown.

MP records maximum Covid-19 deaths after Maharashtra and Gujarat

A total of 87 deaths were reported since Monday morning — 36 in Maharashtra, 20 in Gujarat, six each in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, five in West Bengal and one each in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

Of the 2,293 deaths, Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of fatalities at 868, followed by Gujarat (513), Madhya Pradesh (221), West Bengal (190), Rajasthan (113), Uttar Pradesh (80), Delhi (73), Tamil Nadu (53) and Andhra Pradesh (45).

Another area de-contained, total containment zones in Delhi now 81

New Delhi: With one more area de-contained, the total number of containment zones in Delhi dropped to 81 on Monday. “One more area in Delhi- House No. A-30, Mansarover Garden has been de-contained. The total number of containment zones in the national capital now stands at 81. No new addition in containment zones,” according to an official statement by the Delhi Government. However, strict compliance of lockdown will continue to be followed in areas that are no more a containment zone. Also, social distancing and masks will remain compulsory in the areas even for hawkers and vendors. Earlier, the Arvind Kejriwal-led government had announced several relaxations for the city, except in the containment zones.

Barring containment zones, economic activities should be allowed to resume in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said during a video conference chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with CMs of different states on Monday.

“During the interaction, the chief minister said economic activities should be allowed to resume in Delhi, except in COVID-19 containment zones,” a source told PTI.

The government has already demanded from the Centre that all 11 districts of Delhi be not treated as ‘red zones’ so that more economic activities are allowed in the national capital, sources said.
